Solve each literal equation for the indicated variable?

Rose's garden is in the shape of a trapezoid. If the height of the trapezoid is 16m, one base is 20m, and the area is 224 m to the second power, find the length of the other base.

Solve each literal equation for the indicated variable?
Area of trapezoid = average of bases times height

average of bases = (b1 + b2)/2

this becomes (x+20)/2 and the height is 16

thus 224 = (x+20) * 8

224 = 8x + 160

64 = 8x

8 = x
Reply:Trapezoid

B = 20 m

b = ?

h = 16 m

Area = 224m2

Area = (B + b) * h/2

224 = [(20 + 8) * 16] / 2

224 = (20 + b) * 8

224 : 8 = 20 + b

28 - 20 = b

b = 8 m
Reply:Base = 6

bigger base is 20m

x is the base of the triangle

2x+y = 20 (Length of the bigger base)

y = 20 - 2x

Area:

224 = 16x + 16y

224 = 16(x + 20 - 2x)

y = 6 (smaller base)
