Anaya, Rudolfo. Bless Me, Ultima
Angelou, Maya. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
Ansa, Tina. The Baby of the Family

Gaines, Ernest J. A Lesson Before Dying
Gaines, Ernest. The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman
Garland, Sherry. Shadow of the Dragon
Gibbons, Kaye. Ellen Foster

readers may enjoy Cry,
the Beloved Country by Alan Paton.]
Green/Greenberg, Joanne. I Never Promised you a Rose Garden
Günter, J. Death Be Not Proud
Hemingway, Ernest. For Whom the Bell Tolls
Help me choose which of the following books to read?
Definitely A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines. My second choice would probably be Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.
I guarantee you will love A Lesson Before Dying.
Well, all of these are really great. I'm sure you'll love whichever one you pick.
Reply:Bradbury, Ray. Fahrenheit 451
Its really good. I read it for English my sophomore year and loved it. Plus if you get lost you can always watch the movie to help you get a better understanding of whats going on in the novel.
Reply:Fahrenheit 451 is a must read!
Watership Down is really great as well.
And Iove anything by Hemingway.
Reply:I've only read 2 of those. Watership Down and The Count of Monte Crisco.
I definately recommend the count of monte crisco!!!! IT's an absolute must!!!
I personally enjoyed watership down very much. It's not for everyone though. Some people tend to think talking rabbits is stupid. But it was a wonderful book! So sad! The very beginning is a little bit boring (in my opinion) but it gets really good! They also have a movie of it but the book is waaaay better!
Reply:My favorite of these is The Count of Monte Cristo. This is a really good book!!
Reply:I really enjoyed Angelou's "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." She wrote it in the first person, which was an effective way of bringing the reader along on her journey, even though she wrote it after the events took place.
Reply:oh oh oh !
Watership Down!
I loved that book as a kid and there's a cartoon film of it too, so good. Get your tissues ready!
Watership Down is a real place in Berkshire!
Saw it on the Police GPS intending to take my own rabbits there one day just so I can take pics of them running in the free land.
Best Wishes

p.s. Read everything, extensively - reading opens new worlds I love it!
Reply:Adams, Richard. Watership Down
totally
Reply:Ok, these are great literary options, but if you enjoy pure litature genius, 'Count of Monte' Cristo'. Can't go wrong with that one. It has everyting. After you read it, the movie is also very good.
My second choice would be Great Expectations, Dickens is brilliant there!
You must try either one of those though, they are great.
Reply:fahrenheit 451 is really good, better than martian chronicals. great expectations is amazing but it takes awhile to read because dickens is extremely detailed.
Reply:Honestly, I haven't read too many of these. but Great Expectations--was phenomenal. I really got into it and the book was just surprising.
Reply:my top 3 on your list are
1. The Martian Chronicles
2. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
3. For Whom the Bell Tolls (probably not as interesting to a woman)
Reply:Death be not proud or i know why the caged birds sing sound interesting
