What kind of weed is this,it looks like a tall dandelion?

I live in central California, and have a tall weed growing in my rose garden, the flowers looks very much like a common dandelion, and the rest of the plant looks similar too, but it gets 2-3 feet tall. Does anyone know what it might be, or if its toxic? My herbivorious lizards love dandelion flowers, and I want to know if they can eat these flowers as well.

It looks like what we call "Sow Thistle" Sonchus oleraceus.

Easily remove by hand or weed spray

In NZ it is also known as Pua, which is cooked and eaten by local Maoris
Reply:I believe it to be a dandelion.
Reply:Can you get a picture of it?
Reply:I believe it is a plant in the rosinweed group. Other names are compass plant and silphium. There are about a million different kinds and I can't remember the Midwestern common name for the one that looks most like yours. I looked around a bit but I'm sorry, I got a little bored. If you search those words though, there is a bunch of stuff to look at. If I'm right, and from what I read, it would not be toxic to your lizards. I'm sorry I wasn't more definitive but I hope this helps you some.
Reply:a tall dandelion
Reply:It looks like a "yellow goatsbeard". If it has a milky sap like a dandelion I'm almost sure of it. Not a hard plant to get rid of, just pull the plant and its gone. If you type yellowgoats beard into a search engine such as google you should be able to find pictures that you can compair with what you have
Reply:a milk weed plant? maybe you could look for a pic of milkweed on line.
