Rose’s garden is in the shape of a trapezoid. If the height of the trapezoid
is 16 m, one base is 20 m, and the area is 224 m2, find the length of the other base?
A=1/2h(B+b)(for b) area of trapezoid 3 part question?
Area of a trapezium is 0.5(a+b)h, where a and b are the two parallel sides.
So for this question:
0.5(20+b)16 = 224
8(20+b) = 224
20+b = 224/8 = 28
b = 8
Reply:224=(1/2)(20+b)16
b=8
Reply:A = 224
h = 16
B = 20
Substitute:
224 = .5(16)(20+b)
Simplify:
224 = 8(20 + b)
28 = 20 + b
b = 8
