Good Topic For a Story?

I was thinking about having a murder mystery/ghost story called "White Roses" and the idea is really rough but the basic idea is that at this mansion there is a beautiful rose garden. Every color rose you could think of. It is said that if you pick a pink rose it brings you friendship, a red rose brings you love, and a yellow rose brings you luck and good fortune. But one day, a new bloom of roses appear; white roses. And people begin taking them, hoping that they bring some sort of purity. But the thing is, everytime a petal falls off the rose the person who picked it gets injured in some way (ie; sickness, accident) and when the rose dies, the person dies. Soon the white roses begin poisoning the ground where the roses grow and they begin bringing terrible things. The police can't explain it, and the only suspect they have is the frail gardener who is well of 80. Soon people start giving others the roses in hope for revenge.

Good Topic For a Story?
I like the idea; it's unique. If it's written well, I think you could have a winner. BTW: I love mystery stories!

One thing I'd ask: how does the murderer cause people to get sick or injured every time a petal falls from the rose? Or, does the murderer just use this to mask his murders? If he just uses this, are you going to write it as though the sickness and injuries become self-fulfilled prophecies? In other words, the first person gets injured when a petal falls and people get superstitious and begin believing sickness and injuries will follow and they do. Just a thought.
