My roses are not what they use to be, what should I do?

My eight rose bushes have all, but 2 (on the other side of the garden) are covered with white, on the stems and under leaf. My rose petals have dark outer petals and do not open fully. A few days ago I sprayed them with FUNGICIDE. Is this what I am suppose to do?

Powdery mildew would be showing on the top side of the leaf as well, and wouldn't really look like much on the stem. That, combined with the description of the leaves not opening right, makes me suspect a woolly aphid. They WOULD be on the underside of leaves, and on the tender stems, and would be sucking juices out that would affect the opening of the new leaves.

A simple insecticidal soap will take care of them, but you would have to get down low, and spray up at them. It's gotta touch them to work.

If you're unsure of what you have, cut a branch, pop it into a plastic bag, and take it to a nearby garden center. They could tell you what you have there.
Reply:Sounds like powdery mildew. I use an insecticidal soap only on my roses. Too much fungicide will also harm the roses.
Reply:How often do you fertilize? I do once a month during the growing season %26amp; spray about every 10 days %26amp; I've had good luck!!
Reply:The white sounds like powdery mildew. And yes spray with fungicide every 7 to 9 days during the spring when it is damp with rain. You also need to spray for insects. It is normal practice to spray for both at the same time. Roses also need to be fertilized often. If you have had it a few years and not kept up with this it could be showing.
