Where should I donate unwanted plants?

I have climbing rose plants that I don't want. I live in San Francisco, CA. Is there some sort of neighborhood garden or org. who will accept these plants as a donation? No need for a receipt, I just want them to go to a new home. Thanks.

Where should I donate unwanted plants?
For anything you want to give away, check out the Freecycle network. It's an email/web-based group that trades "stuff." Many gardeners %26amp; homeowners post offers of plants and other garden materials, and you may just be able to have the recipient come and dig it up themselves.
Reply:You're welcome. Happy sharing! Report Abuse
Reply:Donate to a thrift store-they sell everything.

Or put an ad in the paper-most papers have a free section(you can post the ad for free)
Reply:I put a sign out in front of my house and sold the plants for $1 each. All were thinned perennials. I put the money into new gardening projects. People stopped in droves to get the plants and I was very generous with the handouts. It made me feel good knowing that the plants were going to other gardeners.
Reply:dumpster will work
Reply:I use Freecycle both to give away and receive items, including plants. You can post an "offer" or a "wanted" and people will come pick up something you think is absolutely useless and that they think is extremely useful.

or www.freecycle.org and search for a group in your area.

Freecycle is fun and interesting!
Reply:If I were you, I would call one of the elementary schools and ask them. Most schools would love to have them.
Reply:Contact your local Master Gardener program. I'm sure they would love to have them and could find them a great new home.
Reply:You might try contacting the San Francisco Rose Society or the Peninsular Rose Society (also in San Francisco). One or the other may have a member who might like to adopt your roses. Or may have an annual plant sale where your plants could find a new home. I appreciate that you are making some effort to not just trash them.
Reply:Post some signs around your neighborhood and someone may come and take them off your hands. A post in the news paper would work as well. I know that If I read in the paper that someone in my town was getting rid of their roses I'd be there in a heart beat. Talk to your friends as well, maybe one of them would be interested.

Good luck
