New rose bushes, how much is to be yrimmed when first planted?
If you purchased the rose bush from a retailer or garden center, you shouldn't have to trim it. If, however, this was a potted rose you purchased from a neighbor, follow typical pruning rules:

1. For Hybrid Teas, Floribundas and Grandifloras (the tall ones) - cut back to about 14 inches tall, and remove any canes (branches) that are smaller than a pencil in width.

2. For English or other shrub roses - cut back to about 18-20 inches, remove any deadwood, but you don't have to thin.

3. For miniature roses, cut back to about 8 inches, remove deadwood, but don't thin them.

Roses typically respond well to pruning, and some rose gardeners will actually prune again in July to keep them from getting to gangly.
Reply:Don't trim anything until next spring.
Reply:yea about a year.
