Watching his every move, somewhere in the vicinity of the heart, she felt a longing for him. The way his lips curled a bit crookedly while he was dreaming. The way his soft and steady breathing sounded like the ballad hymn of love. She continued to smile contently at his sleeping body until he startled awake.



"Geezus, sweetie! Please don't do that." he pleaded.



A look of hurt washed over her face as she sat up.



"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you. I only do it because I love you so much.", she whined.



"Okay. Okay. I get it." he said, trying to soothe her. "Thank you for loving me, but I really need to get some sleep. And I can't do it with you staring at me all night." he said and kissed her hand before rolling back onto his other side.



With a sigh, she got up from the bed and pulled on her robe. Glancing back at him, she smiled and felt her heart swoon once again. It was a warm, summer night and the moon was bright. She walked out onto the balcony and stared into the sky.



"I think I heard a star twinkle." she thought to herself. Giggling, she boldly stated up into the sky, "I am in love with the perfect man!"



She looked down into the vast space of their back yard. They had just bought the house and had not done any landscaping yet.



Once she was curled back into bed she turned to look at his gorgeous face again. She reached out and gently grazed her fingers across his cheek. His eyes opened wide and he looked at her.



She looked back and said with a smile, "You know, if I had something else beautiful to look at, I might not sit up all night staring at you. What about the rose garden you said we could put in?"



"I beg your pardon. I never promised you a rose garden and why are you bringing it up right now? I already told you I have to be up early and ...."



"I know. I heard it all before... blah, blah, blah. You need sleep." she interupted him, kissing his cheek. "Alright then, let's go to sleep and we can talk about the rose garden tomorrow."



"Thank you." he whispered into her ear as he pulled her into him. They cuddled together and drifted off into sleep.
